one good thing about having a different attending every week is that most of them take us out to lunch. y'know what that means? food!!! today we went to this italian place and ate enough to make me feel utterly uncomfortable. i didn't even finish my gnocchi. i couldn't finish GNOCCHI, my favorite pasta ever! but don't worry, we got our little boxes for leftovers, b/c after salad and sharing 2 appetizers, who can eat an additional ginormous plate of food? :p

gopooh and i are finalizing 'freeze 2' for the condo tomorrow. the options drove me nuts! did we want a gas grill outlet? any reinforcements for hanging light fixtures? any dimmer switches? what kind of lights did we want? eyeball lights? recessed can lights? how many, in which rooms, and in what arrangement? did we like the fluorescent light for the kitchen, or did we want to design our own lighting? did we want to separate the fan and the lights in the bathrooms, and if so, how did we want the wiring to go? on and on, on and on.

we've figured out MOST of it, but a big thing left is the fireplace. we want a little one, but the smallest one is made of brick; given our desired modern-ish decor, we're not sure how a brick fireplace would work. we definitely don't want one of the gigantic ones w/ the media spaces built in, and the small roman-looking one is out, too.

that leaves us w/ the medium-sized ones, which still seem a bit too obtrusive to me. *sigh* but since we've already decided to get a fireplace... which one do we want, and w/ what tiles (concrete?) surrounding it? ugh. i can see why a lot of ppl would rather NOT build their own place -- it's a royal pain in the ass!

another intern and i somehow ended up w/ friday afternoon off work, either b/c of major miscommunication, or other ppl (namely our program secretary and chief resident) were discretely giving us a break. not only did we escape a lame monthly "physician wellness seminar" w/ the psych PhD, but we also had our clinic schedules blocked for the hour-long seminar and the rest of the afternoon even though they weren't s'posed to be. in other words, we were FREE.

awesome! we did some crap and then went to starbucks to chat for a little bit. y'know, girls' time. well, a little bit turned into 3 hrs. it was extra awesome b/c we're buddies, and plus it was beauuutiful out! almost a little too beautiful i'd say, since i ended up getting slightly sunburned on the right side of my nose. but i can't even complain a/b that, b/c who complains a/b a surprise afternoon in the sun? :)

happy belated 3rd anniversary to my sweet gopooh!!! our anniversary was technically friday, but we were both on call. (of course i was the only one who had to sleep at the hospital, but that's a whole other issue altogether. :p) so we celebrated on saturday at café bon homme in downtown plymouth. sooo yummy. seeing how we'll be living just a few blocks away, we're totally going back. :)

it doesn't feel like 3 years. sometimes i refer to smthg we did, thinking it happened last year or so, and then it turns out it was over 2 years ago. that always makes me do a double take. it's scary how time flies when you're having fun, isn't it? but then again, they say that time flies faster the older you get, so that could be it too...

gopooh is the most caring and supportive man i've ever met. and he cracks me up! that is sooo important to me. when i think about the last few years, i honestly can't imagine how they would've been w/out him beside me. i know they haven't been terrible -- some might even call them awesome, depending on the criteria used -- but of course there have been some rough days... thank god gopooh was the cause of so few of them. i'd say, less than 10 of them, and that's amazing, given the number of days we've spent together. happy 3 years, baby.

i think being asian sometimes gives you an instant bond w/ older asians. yesterday was my last day in the ICU, and a middle-aged asian nurse i've worked w/ a few times came up to me and said, "you know what ppl think? after your first call everyone said 'she's good. she knows what she's doing.' i was so proud!" i must've given her the blankest stare possible, and i know this b/c of three things:

1) i didn't feel like i knew what i was doing that first call, after almost a full year of having read nthg even remotely related to medicine.
2) i was too busy pondering that "i was so proud" statement to say anything intelligent.
3) as if answering my blank stare, she said, "y'know, b/c i'm asian."

it's odd, really, if you think about it. i mean, I sure don't go around thinking, "ooh an asian person. we can be friends." maybe it's different for the older generation though, since many of them tend to think of being asian as being 'different.' ok that made no sense, and i can't explain it. i just know that this wasn't the first time an asian has referred to some sort of asian bond.
