i took a personal day yesterday so gopooh and i could go to cedar point. this was after that kid got her feet chopped off on a ride last week, so needless to say, we opted out of the power tower this year. ;p we had a lot of fun. for some reason -- maybe b/c it was monday? or b/c we just plain lucked out -- the lines were awesome. we rode millenium force twice, top thrill dragster twice, and the magnum and raptor a few times each... and we still left at 7pm, 3 hours earlier than we normally do.

they're having a lot of problems w/ the new ride, maverick. we heard that it was actually shut down for a whole week before. boooo. the first time we waited in line we thought we'd hit the jackpot b/c we got in line just as it'd re-opened after some issue w/ it. unfortunately, we were about 10 minutes from actually getting our butts in the seat when they announced they once again had to shut down for 'mechanical difficulties.' that not sounding super reassuring, we left the line.

we later went back and waited half an hour, and this time we got to ride! it's like the raptor, except you're sitting in a train on the track instead of suspended from it... but it also has an acceleration like a mini top thrill dragster. it's a fun ride... now if only it would stop breaking down...

i love these pictures. they were taken from our deck in curacao at sunset. our balcony overlooked our hotel's private beach. can you imagine what it must be like to see this every day?

gopooh and i always go grocery shopping together, even though he does all the cooking. i go partly b/c it's what we've always done, but partly b/c if i didn't, he'd probably come home w/ a bag of chips every time or smthg. haha.

whenever i see an old man buying only frozen food, i have to point it out to gopooh and tell him how sad it is. and he always points out that if he were single, he'd probably eat a lot of crap too, b/c if he's going to eat smthg easy, junk food is more satisfying than blueberries and strawberries. he's right in a sense -- i eat a lot of crap, i know i do, and as much as i try to buy lots of fruits, i also remember eating pizza house every night in college b/c it was oh-so-good and easy.

but it's not the frozen food that makes me sad. i mean, there are lots of older men and women w/ junk food in their carts, but they're usually mixed in w/ some meat, fruits, and vegetables. or at least bread for sandwiches. the ones that sadden me are those w/ ONLY frozen food. sometimes i just want to reach over and give them some of our stuff.

i can't help but wonder if their wives have passed away and they just don't bother making food... and heating up a beef stroganoff is easier than making a turkey sandwich. or if they've always eaten like crap. or if they're married but the couple just eats frozen food day in and day out (unlikely, since i've never met a married couple like this.)

what's interesting though, is that i've never seen an old woman toting around just frozen food. maybe it's related to smthg i read a long ago that said that a widowed woman does much better than a widowed man. or maybe it's b/c a single woman usually watches her diet better than a single man who has maybe never abandoned bachelorhood. or maybe i should just stop thinking about how sad it is to exist on frozen food.

when we were in curacao, we went to an ostrich farm, where we first toured the farm then enjoyed eating the meat. if you've never eaten ostrich, i recommend trying it at least once. our meal was so good that gopooh wanted to go back for lunch once more before leaving the island, but we ran out of time.

anyway, we took a bunch of pictures, but they accidentally got deleted from my computer. :( luckily we still have a handful left. here's an ostrich still in the process of hatching... and then a 1-day-old one. aren't they cuuuute???

here's a picture of me feeding some of the grown ones... followed by proof of the attack! yeah that's right: one of the ostriches bit me! he/she didn't break skin, but it DID hurt, and i was left w/ a beak-shaped bruise on my left arm.

they also offered an ostrich ride for an additional fee. they have 2 guys run in front of it, and then another one 'catches' it so you can get on. i was really really tempted, but gopooh wouldn't let me... smthg about how they're wild animals... they kick ppl when they get the chance... you have to sign a waiver for a reason... y'know, safety stuff. ;) i guess in the end, it's better we didn't ride one, b/c it would've sucked to have spent the rest of our honeymoon in a hospital!
