merry christmas! hope everyone has a great holiday. we've been having a great few days, especially since i've managed to have the last 4 days off w/o using vacation time. i need to work a half day tomorrow and a half day thursday, but then my holiday break (again, no vacation time used) kicks in until jan 2. we have a lot of things planned, so it's going to be a very busy week. but that's good, right? :)

what do ppl do to ring in the new year nowadays? i have no idea what we're going to do. gopooh has mentioned going to a techno concert downtown, but i'm not in the mood for that. i want to do smthg low key, but not too low key, if you know what i mean. well, whatever our plans turn out to be, i'm sure we'll have fun.

in the meantime though, merry christmas!

last night we went to a holiday party that my program was having. in some way, we almost felt 'obligated' to go b/c i love the ppl i'm graduating w/, and i love hanging out w/ them.

there was a ton of food, and i just couldn't stop my hand from grabbing those damn pizza rolls. i don't know what's wrong w/ me, but i have no self-control when it comes to food. i think i ate close to 10 of them, along w/ a bunch of other things, and i felt a bit ill after the night was over. but oh well, it was nothing that i couldn't sleep away haha. plus we had a good time laughing and joking about everything and anything, and that's what counts.

parties are different now that we're older though. when we first started dating, we hung out w/ friends late at night... whether it was at a club, a bar, or a house party. now, parties seem to end early. definitely before midnight, and usually before 11pm. but half the time when we leave a party, we go somewhere else... like to a late movie... so it's not that we go home and sleep earlier. we just like to cram more events into a night. it's as if we feel like our time on this earth is getting shorter and shorter, so we try to fit in everything we enjoy doing.

in other words, we've become ADHD, and we like it.

i just registered for a diabetes conference in denver in february. denver in february. it's going to be COLD! unfortunately, although it runs almost every month and sometimes occurs in nicer cities like seattle and miami, it had to be THIS one, b/c 5 of us decided to go together, and february fit everyone's schedule the best. :(

the thing is, it's s'posed to be a great conference. and not only is it free (so it doesn't eat up the allotted money our program gives us), but they also give you your own room at the ritz-carlton, plus they pay for airfare and other transportation up to $600. on top of that, they provide breakfast and lunch during the conference and give you an extra $100 for outside food. so essentially, it's completely free. put that w/ a girl's trip away, and how could i resist?

the bummer is that it happens to fall over valentine's day, and gopooh can't take those days off to come w/ me. on the flip side, he loves to tell ppl that of the 5 girls going, 3 of us are married and abandoning our sad spouses. he's already joking that he's going to find someplace that has a loser's special so he can go and eat a valentine's dinner while looking at all the other married men eating by themselves. haha. yeah, ok, we all suck. but we're going to have a good time away! :)

the best news i got all day was when gopooh paged me at work to tell me he got the tickets to thailand. he almost -- but not quite -- had enough thankyou points to get one of the plane tickets for free. so we're using some of the thankyou points for our hotel stay in phuket. THAILAND, HERE WE COME!!!

although our trip spans 11 days, we're only going to have 8 full days there. travel time sucks! we're going to spend the first half in bangkok and the second half in phuket. (we decided to just stay in 1 country as we'd originally wanted. that way we don't have to worry about going somewhere just for the sake of going. i'm not into that.)

i know most ppl say that phuket has more stuff to do, but there are a lot of sites in both places. we're going to go to temples, pet tigers at the tiger temple, ride elephants, lie on the beach, and more. what a way to celebrate 1 year of marriage. i am sooo excited and happy that gopooh planned this for us!

last night G had a bunch of us over for dinner and laughs until it got to be 1:30am and we were just too tired to stay anymore. we hadn't seen her new house before, so it was cool. she's bulgarian, so she included stuff that they eat in bulgaria, like lamb tongue and brain.

i've eaten brain before... as a kid, when i didn't really know what it was... and i remember it being like noodles. but i haven't had it recently, so i couldn't bring myself to try some. i did try the tongue though, and that was pretty good.

so i asked another friend how the lamb brain tasted. she thought for a little, and then said, "you know bull?" i just stared at her and thought to myself, "bowl???" so she continued. "bull testicle? it tasts like that, w/ the same texture." yeah... i've never had bull testicle before either. hahaha!

G has a really cute cat. when i was younger i was always pretty allergic to cats, but as i got older i became more immune to them, and now i see C & S's cats all the time. if there are no dogs around, i could totally play w/ a cat! (but G's cat has claws, and when she got really excited during play time, i could feel those claws digging at my poor little hands. ouch!)
