last week gopooh and i went to a spine conference reception at the rock and roll hall of fame. i'd been there before, in 2001, but didn't really remember anything about it. well lucky for us, the convention let us go through the whole museum for free. :)

to be honest, i didn't get much out of it. i mean, so much of it was over my head. it was cool seeing things like john mayer's written lyrics and u2 stuff, but i didn't recognize many of the musicians. or others i knew OF them but wasn't super familiar w/ their lyrics or tours, so seeing their outfits was like... eh.

gopooh knew more of the featured artists, so he was more interested. but even then, i don't think his breadth of knowledge was enough to make it worth $22, which is what we would've had to pay per person to walk through normally. as years pass and more ppl are featured in the rock and roll hall of fame, i might develop more interest. but then again, i listen to music purely for auditory satisfaction; i don't really care about the history of the ppl behind the songs.

my friend C came into town to visit this weekend. we spent a lot of the time letterboxing. she's been doing it for awhile now, but i was only vaguely familiar w/ the pastime. it was actually really cool. we entered locations in my gps and followed its directions. some of the letterboxes were harder to find than others, but in the end i think we found 6 or 7 of them. an added bonus was that it took us all over the place, and i saw parts of cleveland i'd never seen before.

we also went along the beach, got custard at this famous ice cream place, went to the james garfield monument at the lakeview cemetery, ate late night food in the warehouse district, hung out at koko bakery (bubble tea, yea!), and went to dim sum. it was really nice catching up w/ her. it's pretty hard nowadays to get together w/ friends, so i'm really glad she was able to drive out here and i can't wait until our next visit!

driving from detroit to chicago costs $3 in tolls. unfortunately it was $17 from cleveland! the whole drive was just 4 toll roads. i was kinda caught off guard -- i'd known that i'd have to pay tolls, but i didn't expect it to be that high! yikes. at least we don't make the drive that often...

aside from that, the weekend went well. G's bridal shower went off without a hitch, and we bridesmaids did a great job decorating, if i do say so myself. :p at night a small group of us (just the bridal party plus a couple extra friends) went to a club to help G celebrate. it was funny b/c K had that famous bachelorette checklist, but G was too shy to really complete any of the items. actually, she completed 70-80% of the checklist, but everything was initiated by other ppl... like the girls brought over all the guys and stuff. it was hilarious. we all had a good time though.

we made our second trip back to plymouth this weekend. 2 weekends, 2 trips back to michigan! this tim was for gopooh's parents' anniversary. it was nice b/c we hung out w/ his family and also had ashoka indian buffet w/ some friends. guess whose suggestion that was! yup, gopooh's haha. he loves that place.

over the holidays we bought a garmin nuvi 200W gps. circuit city had a sale for <$200, and then we used our AAA discount for an additional 8% off. :) even though it doesn't speak street names, it'll come in handy for cleveland, and plus it has the bigger screen, which G & D both recommended. the only downside was that we had to do in-store pickup b/c delivery would've taken a few days and haven't set up our package acceptance in our new apartment yet. it wasn't available at the nearest circuit city store, so we had to drive 20 miles to get it. boo. but once we did, tada!

i really like the nuvi so far. it seems like some of the directions aren't as convenient... like it gives directions to go through downtown cleveland despite a million stoplights. we kinda prefer taking the freeways, even though they can be confusing, the way a highway suddenly branches off into 4 different ones heh. but hey isn't that what nuvi's for anyway? ;p
