my friends are set into different circles. it's only natural. i mean, i have friends from high school, friends from college, friends from medicine, and friends from elsewhere. and that's cool w/ me, y'know? i mean, although i obviously think all my friends are great, that doesn't necessarily mean that they'd all click w/ each other.

i've been friends w/ G for 12 years and friends w/ C for 10, and this weekend they finally met! we went shopping for bridesmaid dresses. actually i should say that we started out shopping for them but that deteriorated into regular old shopping and dinner. convo was less deep than normal, since they don't know the intimate details of each other's lives, but it was fun nevertheless. and i was pleased to see the two of them chatting even when i wasn't around. maybe w/ the wedding the two of them will become friends, but i can't be disappointed if they don't, since one lives in chicago and the other lives in new york.

and btw, i hadn't been to bath & body works in a really long time (like, years), but we went this weekend, and they were having a sale. i got 5 antibacterial hand washes for $10. $2 each! i love good deals. :)

i turned 28 this past week. i remember rollerskating, then boy-girl, birthday parties when i was a kid. i thought they were such a big deal. but now, it's like... birthday? no biggie. maybe i'll feel differently in 2 years -- as in, maybe i'll be dreading it -- but a number of my friends are already 30+, and none of them took it that hard, so we'll see. *shrug* in the meantime, i'm 28 and still going out w/ my silly friends. here we are at ristorante ciao, aka ciao's.

we didn't do much sightseeing, but let's face it. it's chicago. it's a fun city and all, but how often can you go to the museums? (gopooh found out that the tutankhamun exhibit doesn't start until memorial day weekend, and he knows how much the field museum stuff lacks appeal to me, so he opted to skip it and go back during the exhibit.) we basically hung out w/ G & D in various places and... ate.

thursday night we went to this free event hosted by guiness at dave & buster's. it was s'posed to be a happy hour thing but it really started at 6:30. despite chowing down on sliders, chicken tenders and mini pizzas, we then went to emilio's tapas and ordered 4 tapas AND 2 huge paellas.

friday we first ate tacos at the zoo, and then for dinner we went to sushi para too, this small sushi buffet that G and D like the best. between the 4 of us, we put away 4 plates of sushi. granted the last plate was the smallest, but still. it was a lot. and that was in addition to soup, 2 edamame, 2 gyoza and 1 vegetable tempura. ummm... yeah, we put that buffet to good use.

saturday was fogo de chau. for those who don't know it's this brazilian buffet w/ various cuts of meat, only they bring the meat to you. they give you these little cardboard circles, red on one side and green on the other, and you're s'posed to flip it to green if you want the meat to come and red if you don't. after we ate from the salad bar we were all green. literally 3 minutes later my plate was completely full of meat. it'd never occurred to me to flip to red, and those servers are fast. they spot those green circles from a mile away! :o so yeah, fogo was good... especially finished off w/ a shared dessert that we unfortunately couldn't finish b/c we all felt like to barf.

then yesterday's big meal was dimsum in chinatown. 12 of those little dimsum dishes plus noodles. and then, like the hogs we are, we went next door and got 2 bubble teas to share! those drinks turned out to be gigantic... WAY bigger than the ones in michigan. oh my god, it was so much food. when we left D was like "next time i'll show you the other buffet..." for the love of god... no... please, no!
