yesterday we went over to L & Q's new house for lunch. T & J were also there, so it was like a mini reunion! i love these ladies; it's hard to believe that we've been friends for 12 years. it's even harder to believe that all of us are now married, and T & J have 3 kids. crazy.

i really like their house b/c it's so spacious. the downstairs is very similar to our place in that the kitchen has a lot of tall cabinets and the main space is all open. it's nice to know that this sort of design still exists in a house. i was starting to think that we'd be limited to living in a high rise for that! (i actually really like high rises, but i'm not sure i'll like them in 10 years.)

anyway the girls did our thing and the guys ran over pedestrians and shot innocent ppl on PS3. haha. it was so great getting together again. it's hard to keep in touch w/ all of us doing our own thing all the time, but every time we get together it's just like old times. i love these girls.

i turned 30 this weekend. whoo-hoo! haha. no seriously, turning 30 wasn't a big deal. i don't know what all the hoopla is about 30 being the big turning point. my life feels exactly the same as it did 5 years ago... w/ some minor changes. :)

i had a good birthday. first gopooh took me out to sweet georgia brown, a southern-flaired restaurant we'd always wanted to check out but never did. i had the chilean sea bass and he had what the restaurant's known for: fried lobster tails. despite it sounding really really weird, it was actually delicious!

but the best part of dinner was the dessert, of course. we shared a chocolate cake, and when the waiter commented that it was a good idea we were sharing, we knew it'd be big. and big it was. we actually took some of it home, and we never do that w/ dessert!

saturday and sunday we celebrated w/ my parents and gopooh's parents, respectively. i think we ate way too much food this weekend. but it was a good time. here's to another year! :)

i had to get fingerprinted for my new medical license, so earlier today i made my way to the plymouth police department. after paying the $5 to get my paw prints recorded, i was led to a room that had a counter, a ruler marked on the wall, and a fingerprinting area.

as the cop was dipping my fingers in the ink, i asked him, "this washes off easily, right?" and he was like, "no it takes a couple days." so me being me, i responded w/, "WHAT?! oh noooo!" he then asked if i had somewhere to be over the weekend, and after i told him i didn't have any big plans but i'd rather not look at stained fingertips all weekend, he told me that he was just kidding, and that it washes right off. phew.

true enough, after the fingerprint cards were all completed, i was given some gritty (exfoliating?) hand cleanser that smeared the ink all over my hands -- a sure sign that it was coming off. after my 'ick' sound, i was told that i was lucky, b/c they don't give the criminals hand cleanser and paper towel. tooo funny, but surely that's not true? i mean, would they really fingerprint someone and then have him leave marks on everything he touched? hmm.

in any case, the cop was like, "you don't do a lot of manual labor, do you?" to which i replied, "only w/ a pen." ha, i have become such a smart ass. after we'd finished laughing though, i was told that my prints might actually be rejected, b/c i had really really small ridges! he said that if that happened, i should soak my hands in warm water for an hour next time, b/c it helps to accentuate them... just like when they pull ppl out of rivers... um, ok. as painless as the procedure was, i'd hate to be right back there doing it again. i hope they don't reject my poor soft-handed fingerprints!

this past week was a busy one. wednesday through friday, i was in seattle w/ 3 friends for an osteoporosis conference. it was actually really good -- better than the diabetes one. we learned a lot more about how to interpret dexa scans... not the radiology reports, but the actual scans themselves... as well as more details on the meds. which one to pick, which bisphosphonate is no good, etc. it was a great free conference and we also had time to walk around seattle!

i got back after midnight friday night, and then bright and early saturday morning, gopooh and i went to cleveland to apartment hunt. it was our third time there, but this time i think we found one that's a real possibility. it's a loft in the warehouse district of downtown cleveland. gopooh's the one who likes lofts, but i really like the warehouse district. it's the only part of cleveland where if i were a dog, my ears would've perked up when we were driving through. heh.

of course we have to talk about it more, but it's just such a good deal compared to the other apartments. it's not the most luxurious place, but some of the nicer places were too expensive to make it worth it for just 1 year, or the buildings were full of 20 to 25-year-olds. it seems weird, but although we like the happenin' warehouse district (which is bound to have loud music on the weekends), we're not willing to put up w/ a loud dorm-like atmosphere.
