we are enjoying our time back in michigan (sleeping in our big king-sized bed w/ our super comfortable fluffy pillowtop mattress), and getting ready for thanksgiving dinner. there's going to be a huge amount of food, both american and korean. :) gopooh made the stuffing for the turkey and already dropped it off at his parents' this morning, and he also made me stove top on the side b/c it is my favorite! hahaha. i plan on stuffing my face, and i hope you all do too.

happy thanksgiving!

C was in town again this weekend for a tau beta pi event. unfortunately we didn't really do anything exciting. in fact it was the exact opposite. i have to take my boards in less than a month, and i haven't gotten any consistent studying done. most of that is due to being tired after work and my own laziness. i tell ya, once i got out of college my study habits went drastically downhill! ;)

but in any case, we basically spent the weekend at starbucks and the asian bakery i like. (i studied, gopooh played on the internet, and C worked on fun stuff on her laptop.) it sucked that she was in town and we couldn't even do anything. it especially sucked b/c she agreed to this event so we could hang and then all we did was slum around. but at least we got to chat over extended meals. haha. hopefully next time we meet up there won't be any studying involved.

i've been thinking of getting a new laptop for awhile now... like a year. i got my current sony vaio back in 2003 and it has done well for me, w/ only one 'problem' when it wouldn't load my user profile or any of my stuff. but now it takes forever to start up, open programs, and shut down. every time the thought of a new laptop pops into my head, i check out the new deals for a day or so, and then tell myself that i don't need a new one just yet b/c the current one still works fine.

the one thing i'm looking for is a nice keyboard. i know, it sounds crazy. but my vaio's keyboard has these springy keys that are sooo easy to depress, so i can type fast for as long as i need to without any aching fingers. gopooh's HP is much faster, but when i use it i get typos left and right b/c of the keys. sometimes i have to type the same word 3 times to get it right haha. and then after a long email my fingers feel tired! so i've realized, a nice keyboard is a must.

now the question is, which one should i get?

i'm taking my boards 1 month from today. i'm not nervous yet, but i am starting to think it was a bad idea to take it in december. after all, i had originally planned on taking it this past august, but due to the delay in getting my ohio medical license, i wasn't eligible by the deadline. i thoroughly enjoyed my 2 months off from work, but now i'm working full time and trying to study at the same time, while most of my former residency class is done w/ this thing.

i have to admit, i was a bad resident. not that i was actually bad at the medicine part of being a resident, b/c i always got great evaluations, but i was bad in that i did not study. i studied for the USMLE step 3 the month before i took it. for 1 week before our inservice exams i did old inservice questions. i did my required 'research' project w/ E, i did the usual case presentations and lectures, and i read about specific topics while caring for my patients. oh and i also went to diabetes and osteoporosis conferences w/ friends haha.

BUT other than that, nada. even on call, i wrote long emails, watched TV and talked on the phone when i should've been sleeping or studying. i learned by observing, paying attention during lectures, and "doing." gopooh and i goofed off every weekend, and my residency flew by.

now, here i am trying to make up for lost study time. it's tough to change 3 years of bad habits, especially when gopooh doesn't have to study. as a result, i study on the weekends for 5 hours on saturday and 3 hours on sunday, if i'm lucky, and i can also get in 2 hours at starbucks a couple days a week. thank god i took the week before the test off so i can study hard core!
